A Very Memorable Visit to Shanghai.
![]() We arrived in Shanghai on 30 Oct 2024 to the announcement that Shanghai would be hit by a severe typhoon on 1 Nov. But that did not faze our wonderful guide, Winnie! She reorganised our itinerary to max the time we had before the typhoon arrive which would have stopped all activities. Meeting us at 8.30am, she whisked us to Shanghai Tower - so that we could beat the morning crowd to get up to the observation deck on the 118th floor and take in the breath-taking view before the rolling fog reduced all visibility! Lunch was a v delicious meal of local treats at a famous local bistro after a tour of the Shanghai Museum. Winnie was so thoughtful, she even bought us a green bean soup each for us old folks to hydrate ourselves through the afternoon. Plus - a very pretty pumpkin pastry to celebrate Halloween! We spent the afternoon walking along the Bund with Winnie explaining the history and significance of the different buildings and a tour of the French Quarter after that. All these could not have been done the next day when the typhoon brought gusty wind and heavy rain. Because of Winnie's initiative and hard work on 31 Oct, we got to see the Shanghai we came to visit! Kudos to you, Winnie! more

Suggested Itinerary
Here is a suggested itinerary. We are happy to customize a tour according to your interests.
Your tour guide will be waiting in the arrivals hall of the airport with a name plate and a welcoming smile. You will be transferred to your hotel by private car and driver, and your tour guide will help you check-in and ensure everything is okay at the hotel.
In the morning you will visit the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center located about 10 kilometers (six miles) north of Chengdu. There you will see giant pandas at rest or play among the bamboo groves. The giant panda museum will allow you to learn more about this cute black-and-white animal.
In the afternoon, you will discover attractions in the Chengdu urban area. People's Park is a spiritual haven for the city's citizens amidst the bustle of downtown. Have a cup of tea in tea house is a traditional custom for Chengdu
You will be driven in about two hours to Leshan City in the morning. After a short break and lunch, you will begin your journey to the Giant Buddha.
Listed in 1992 as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Giant Buddha in Leshan is 71 meters tall and has the largest inscription on a precipice in the world. Besides climbing up to gain a Lilliputian view of the Giant Buddha, you will also go on a cruise to take a look at the huge inscription.
Have a leisure walk to do food hunting on the street. You can try pot chicken with Sichuan spices, Shaomai, crispy Leshan beef hamburger, roast duck with sweet and crispy skin, and toufu pudding.
After the tour, you will be escorted to a hotel near Mount Emei, which is about 31 kilometers (19 miles) from Leshan City.
Tips for Accommodation Near Mount Emei:
Due to limited options and humid weather on Mount Emei, the conditions and services at hotels there are quite basic; but China Highlights has carefully selected the best hotel available, based on criteria like hotel environment, location, service, and previous customer feedback. Your guide will accompany you to see your room. If you are dissatisfied and there are other rooms available, your guide will be happy to assist you with changing rooms.
You will spend a full day visiting Mount Emei, which is another UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China. Take a public sightseeing bus and the cable car to get to the top of the mountain. Enjoy the views around and a beautiful statue of a golden Buddha here.
Your private guide and driver in Chengdu will accompany you to the train station this morning. You will take a bullet train to Jiuzhaigou. You will be picked up and transferred to a restaurant for lunch. After lunch, start your visit to Huanglong.
The Huanglong Scenic Area, the best-preserved plateau wetland in China, is a neighbor to Jiuzhaigou. Its four highlights are colorful pools, snowcapped mountains, verdant forests, and peaceful valleys. The chairlift going up is included to save you time and energy. You can walk back down through the scenic area to enjoy the views at a relaxing pace.
After the tour, your guide and driver will escort you to a hotel near Jiuzhaigou.
After breakfast in the hotel, you will spend most of the day exploring the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, a wonderland named for its nine Tibetan villages ('jiu zhai' is Chinese for 'nine villages'). The valley ('gou') winds its way across some 80 kilometers and covers an area of 720 square kilometers. Depending on your schedule, you will visit its three main ravines: Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, and Zechawa Valley. Private vehicles are not allowed inside, so your guide will accompany you on a public bus which tours around the area.
You will appreciate the picturesque natural scenery with clear alpine lakes, overlapping waterfalls, colorful forests, snowcapped mountains, Tibetan customs, and blue ice. Have your camera at the ready. A variety of restaurants are available in Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, and your guide will recommend suitable dining places for you. Alternatively if you prefer, we can arrange a picnic lunch for you.
Tips for Visiting Jiuzhaigou:
Go early: The area opens at 7am. Get to the park as early as possible not only to have more time there, but also to avoid the tour-group crowds.
Take a bullet train back to Chengdu in the morning. And then you can be transfered to the airport for your flight back home or to the next destination.
